The 1983 film was based on Jean Shepherd’s 1966 book, In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash, and was set in the late 1930s/early 1940s. The three-hour live holiday musical event will “take place in the period” but with a contemporary book ending. Fox has announced that Emmy nominee Maya Rudolph will play the mom of 9-year-old Ralphie Parker.
Ralphie – male, 9 to 12 years old, Caucasian, possibly a bit pudgy, a regular kid – cute but not handsome, winsome but not precious. He wouldn’t be lost in a crowd but he wouldn’t stand out either. Bright but not precocious; a kid you wouldn’t mind living next door to. Actor must be an excellent singer and able to carry a show. Boy’s unchanged voice. High belter, low F# to high D. Tap skills a plus but not required.
